Pivotal and influential, Dmitri Shostakovich was one of the most important composers of the 20th century in Russia and throughout the world. This program is a tribute to his legacy, the brilliant composers who were his students, friends and colleagues. Galina Ustvolskaya’s Trio, Sofia Gubaidulina’s Garden of Joy and Sorrow, Alfred Schnittke’s Piano Quintet and Moisei Vainberg’s 2nd Sonata for Solo Cello all forge new ground, yet have an undeniable musical connection to this master.  Ivan Sokolov, who made his stellar debut during our Icebreaker Festival, joins us.

This program is presented in conjunction with Seattle Symphony’sShostakovich Festival. Tickets can be purchased at Benaroya Hall box office (206) 215- 4747.
Join us for a pre- concert event 6: 15pm with pianist Ivan Sokolov, and a post-concert discussion with Dr. Laurel E. Fay and Dr. Elena Dubinets hosted by Seattle Weekly’s Gavin Borchert.
